St. Louis Rams’ Potential Draft-pick profile: WR Kevin White

facebooktwitterreddit

The St. Louis Rams have struggled on offense for years, especially when it comes to moving the ball via the pass.

The Rams finally have some sort of stability under center, however, they lack a star wide receiver to throw the ball too.

In comes Kevin White. An athletic freak who would create instant offense for the Rams. But, with many reports of White going before pick 10, some luck would be needed for White to fall into the Rams’ hands.

In Mel Kiper’s most recent mock draft, he has White headed to Chicago with the seventh overall pick in the draft while Amari Cooper is projected to go fourth overall to the Oakland Raiders. This is good news for Rams fans for the fact that if the Bears choose to address another position, White could fall into the rams’ lap with the 10th overall pick in this years draft.

Strengths:

White is your prototypical wide receiver. His ability to high-point the football and outrun defenders gives him a combination of size and speed that not a lot of receivers have. According to NFL.com, White has a  terrific inside release to beat press coverage. Creates separation on crossers and can stop on a dime on hitch routes, and makes defenders work to get him down after the catch. His size makes him a huge threat in the red zone. Size kills.

Weaknesses:

There aren’t many weaknesses, folks. NFL.com explains that he must answer questions about his top end speed and work on his blocking. White runs heel-to-toe which could effect his longevity but doesn’t cause any red flags whatsoever in his ability to compete for years to come.

Overview:

What you see is what you get with White. He is going to succeed in the NFL, its just a matter of what team he succeeds for. I was lucky enough to watch White first hand at the Georgia dome this season when WVU took on Alabama in week one. And What I witnessed impressed me twice as much as Cooper of Alabama impressed me. White would join Kenny Britt and Tavon Austin and would instantly make the Rams receiving core well above average. Britt is coming off of a career year with the Rams in which he caught 48 balls from a slew of mediocre quarterbacks. With the Addition of Nick Foles, Foles will have four solid receivers to complete passes to leading to a huge increase in offensive production through the air for years to come. If White is available at 10, the Rams will draft him. Regardless of their offensive line needs. They would be foolish to draft an offensive lineman when a Larry Fitzgerald caliber player is still on the board.
