With the injury to Kellen Moore, the Dallas Cowboys find themselves in need of a backup quarterback and Nick Foles may be their best option.

Ever since his release from the Los Angeles Rams, the Dallas Cowboys seemed to be a likely landing spot for Nick Foles when considering their situation at backup, but Jerry Jones made it clear he had no intention of bringing the quarterback on board for the 2016 season. However, things quickly change in the NFL and with the recent injury to Kellen Moore, it looks like Foles may find himself a new home sooner rather than later.

Moore is expected to miss 3-4 months after suffering a broken ankle in practice this week–which is why the Cowboys are in desperate need of a backup quarterback all of a sudden. Moore started two games for Dallas last season when Tony Romo was sidelined with a shoulder injury and with the backup quarterback position up for grabs, bringing in someone like Foles may be the team’s best option.

Even before Moore’s injury, Foles seemed like a much better option for Romo’s backup despite the fact that he’s coming off a 2015 season in which he threw just seven touchdowns in 11 starts. As disappointing as these numbers are, it’s tough to ignore Foles’ 2013 season with the Philadelphia Eagles in which he threw 27 touchdowns and just two interceptions–which is hard to believe when looking how things panned out last year.

If Foles does end up joining Dallas, there’s no debate he’ll be an immediate upgrade to Moore and at least Jones won’t have to worry about paying him anything crazy like the two-year, $24.5 million extension the Rams gave him last year.
