Rams Reportedly Sign Jeff Fisher to Contract Extension

The Los Angeles Rams have signed head coach Jeff Fisher to a two-year extension, according to a new report.

Today is a bad day for Los Angeles Rams fans, as the team has reportedly signed head coach Jeff Fisher to a two-year extension.

Fisher’s deal, which was going to run out at the end of the season, will be extended through the 2018 season, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rappoport:

Not only did the Rams extend Fisher, the team also extended general manager Les Snead’s contract. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, both deals were done “weeks ago”:

Fisher is in the midst of a losing season with the Rams in 2016. What’s worse is that Fisher has yet to have a winning season as head coach of the Rams in the previous four years he spent with the team.

As a result, fans have been calling for his head all season and those calls will not stop. Furthermore, fans are going to be absolutely sick to know that Fisher, who hasn’t warranted an extension, will be getting one.

Rams COO Kevin Demoff came to Fisher’s defense last week, saying you can’t judge Fisher on record alone. With that being said, it was clear the Rams were going to do this, regardless of what fans thought.

On top of a bad overall record with the team, Fisher recently alienated Rams legend Eric Dickerson when he denied the former running back sidelines passes because of his critiques of the team.

Dickerson has since called for Fisher’s firing and refuses to return to games while Fisher is the head coach. It looks like we won’t be seeing Dickerson at a Rams game until at least 2019 when the new stadium opens and Fisher’s new extension will run out.

That is, of course, unless Fisher can turn this ship around before then and stay with the team beyond 2018. So far, we haven’t seen any evidence that he can and the Rams will stick with Fisher, as he approaches the most losses by a NFL head coach in the league’s history.
