The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly fired head coach Jeff Fisher.

The Jeff Fisher era is finally over in Los Angeles, as the Rams have decided to part ways with their embattled head coach.

ESPN’s Chris Mortensen has the latest:

As far as who will replace Fisher in the interim, it will be special teams coordinator John Fassel, who is the son of former NFL head coach Jim Fassel:

Fisher saw his team get embarrassed once again in Week 14 with a 42-14 loss at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons. It was just the latest in the long line of bad losses during the Fisher era, and in particular, during the 2016 season.

Fisher also tied the NFL record for most losses by an NFL head coach on Sunday, but he won’t be able to break the record while roaming the Rams’ sideline. Overall, Fisher was 31-45-1 as the team’s head coach.

Fisher was signed to a contract extension earlier in the season and was thought to be safe beyond 2016, however that apparently isn’t the case. We got a hint that Fisher wasn’t exactly safe, as it was reported his extension was signed earlier in the season but wasn’t announced until a few weeks ago.

The Rams suffered through five losing seasons under Fisher and the franchise hasn’t enjoyed a winning campaign since 2003. Now the search begins for a new head coach, although a new head man likely won’t be named until after the season is over.
