Los Angeles Rams signing Johnny Manziel could be foolish

Johnny Manziel’s time with the Cleveland Browns may be coming to an ugly ending. After Manziel’s latest story of the cops showing up to his ex girlfriends house about a possible assault, the Browns may have heard enough of Mr. Money Manziel. The Browns released a statement Tuesday afternoon regarding the disappointment in Manziel.

“We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization,” Brown said. “His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”

You may be wondering, well who cares about Johnny, he has nothing to do with the Los Angeles Rams. Well according to Mr. party boy, and Ed Werder of ESPN the LA Rams are one of three teams who are interested in signing the free agent quarterback once the Browns cut him. Let’s go back to the 2014 NFL Draft, where the Rams needed a quarterback and could have had Manziel twice. Instead they drafted Greg Robinson and Aaron Donald, which could be the better picks.

The spotlight was on the Dallas Cowboys and Owner Jerry Jones also in the draft as fans were hoping for Manziel to come to the state of Texas. That too did not happen, but the Cowboys along with the Chiefs are interested in Manziel. So could Johnny Manziel be under center for the LA Rams next year, it’s a long shot.

Out of the three teams that are currently interested in Manziel, the Cowboys would have to be the front-runners. Tony Romo is coming off surgery, and his time with Dallas is running out, they need a quarterback ready to go. For the Rams, well they have quarterbacks but none of them really stand out. With Nick Foles, Case Keenum and Sean Mannion, all will have a chance to win the starting job. According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the Rams will hold an open quarterback completion in 2016. Especially with Manziel’s past history of parties and no show’s at practices why take the risk on him.

The biggest issue for Manziel is the off the field stuff. Before Manziel can even focus on the field, he needs to realize the opportunities he has with any organization. Sashi Brown commented on the performance of Manziel whiling joining ESPN via cell phone Tuesday afternoon.

"“Undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization” –Sashi Brown"

Lets take a look at some starting records of some quarterbacks who could be under center for the Rams next season. Manziel holds a 2-6 record along with throwing 7 touchdowns and interceptions. Keenum holds a 3-2 record with the Rams, along with throwing 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. Keenum definitely was not able to fully produce as the Rams were focused on Todd Gurley last year. Foles has a 4-7 record with the Rams combined with  7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Clearly nobody really stands out as the clear winner.

However with Manziel, he has not shown any determination and passion  with the Browns, what makes one think he will be different in LA? If the Rams were to pick up Manziel it would be an all or nothing scenario. There is no reason to sign Manziel just to have him ride the bench. Hopefully the Rams learned that mistake with giving Foles that contract deal after not playing one snap with the team.

There would be too much on the line for Manziel. He is known for being the spotlight on the weekends at any party, and with the move to Los Angeles, it spells trouble. Why make a stupid mistake on Manziel, when there are quarterbacks in the upcoming draft who at least won’t do no “money celebration” when their name gets announced as a draft pick. If the Rams were to go quarterback shopping once again, Paxton Lynch or Carson Wentz could be the answer.

If the Rams were not to select a quarterback in the draft or pick up Manziel, could it be Sean Mannion time? Let’s save that for another article. Long story short, Manziel is a problem off and on the field, no need to cause drama for a team that is inches away from the playoffs. There is a reason why the Rams drafted Mannion correct?

I’m going to leave on this note. Don’t worry fans, Head Coach Jeff Fisher commented on the QB situation with “We’re Going To Get That Sorted Out”. Next couple of months are going to be interesting.
