Rams RB Todd Gurley sets extremely high goal for himself during 2017 NFL season
By Dan Parzych
During a recent interview, Los Angeles Rams running back Todd Gurley stated he hopes to record 1,500 rushing yards along with 1,000 receiving yards in 2017.
After an impressive rookie campaign in 2015, expectations were high for Todd Gurley heading into his second season with the Los Angeles Rams, but unfortunately last year ended up being a season to forget for the running back. Instead of picking up where he left off as a rookie, Gurley’s sophomore year ended up being such a disappointment, he failed to even record a single 100-yard game.

With that being said, Gurley certainly deserves plenty benefit of the doubt since Los Angeles didn’t make it all that easy due to a lack of support on offense. From a poor offensive line to one of the league’s weakest receiving corps, it’s easy to see why the Rams ranked at the bottom of the NFL last season by only averaging 14 points per game. Not to mention, Los Angeles found themselves playing from behind most games, meaning it was tough for Gurley to receive the hefty amount of carries he normally would in a closer game.
This time around, Gurley should have a much easier time finding holes to get down the field thanks to an impressive offseason for the Rams that consisted of signing Andrew Whitworth to boost the offensive line along with an improved group of receivers for Jared Goff to work with. Thanks to all these big changes, Gurley should have no issues when it comes to recording multiple 100-yard games for Los Angeles, but that’s not all he wants to accomplish.
During a recent interview with Alex Marvez and James Laurinaitis on Sirius XM Radio, Gurley not only threw out the goal of rushing for 1,500 yards, but recording 1,000 receiving yards as well. And as Marvez mentioned in his article, no player has been able to pull off this accomplishment in a single NFL season, so Gurley has taken setting achievable goals to a whole new level.

Call Gurley crazy, but there have been plenty of times over the years in which NFL players emerge out of nowhere to set records against very high odds, so the possibility of it actually happening shouldn’t be ruled out. Obviously, Gurley has a long journey ahead if this is going to happen based off last year, but Rams fans have to love his confidence heading into the first game of preseason.
