Latest on Rams Jared Goff makes you wonder if he’s “The Guy”
By Steve Rivera
Is Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff, “The Guy?” It’s a question fans and pundits alike keep asking.
Los Angeles Rams fans get some answers this weekend. Finally, and after what seems like forever, we get a look at Jared Goff 2.0.
Next: Rams defense very mortal after injury
Will he, or won’t he? It’s the question fans and pundits are asking as the quarterback starts his second season in Los Angeles.
Will he be the franchise leading quarterback Rams fans have been waiting for, or will he be the type of bust that sets this organization back until a high draft pick rolls back their way again?
Saturday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys won’t provide all the answers to the questions NFL watchers and fans have, but it’s his first and best opportunity to make a new ‘first impression’ and it’s one to be taken advantage of.
A recent piece by Tyler Dunne in Bleacher Report asks the reasonable question of whether Goff is “tough enough” to be an NFL quarterback in Los Angeles and in the NFL. It’s a question that has been asked a lot.
It’s also fair, if not a little premature.
I’ve been as rough on Goff as anyone, but I’ve also said that seven games is a small sample to form an opinion moving forward long term.

But it’s also Goff’s narrative to change.
Goff is in an enviable position: play ‘not terrible’ and keep your starting job. I’ve written that it’s a low bar, and the fact that Los Angeles hasn’t an interest in a bonafide veteran to challenge for the starting job is proof enough that it’s his job to lose.
In LA, that’s just enough.
Whatever happens Saturday night in the Coliseum won’t move the needle internally with the Rams. Goff has a blank canvas to paint his 2017 on. It needn’t be a masterpiece, but just ‘good enough’ to keep the dream alive that he can be all that Los Angeles hoped for on draft night.
He’ll get his chance again, and a masterpiece WON’T be required.
