One year after finishing dead last by averaging just 14 points per game, the Los Angeles Rams lead the NFL in total points heading into Week 8.

When the Los Angeles Rams hired Sean McVay as the youngest head coach in NFL history during the offseason, one of the main reasons behind their decision was due to all of the success he had over the years as offensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins. If McVay could figure out a way to bring the best out of Jared Goff like he did with Kirk Cousins over the previous two seasons, the Rams seemed confident enough that there offense would be in much better shape during the 2017 season.

Turns out, Los Angeles’ offense has reached a whole new level of play during McVay’s first year that didn’t even seem possible a few months ago thanks to Goff quickly picking up his head coach’s new system. Not to mention, the first seven games have already proven how much McVay is a better fit for this team than Jeff Fisher ever was when looking at how dominant the offense has been at times during the team’s 5-2 start.

In fact, McVay has plenty of reasons to be thrilled with the way the offense has played so far this season when considering the Rams currently rank a the top of the league with 212 total points in seven games. Sure, there are teams such as the Houston Texans and New Orleans Saints who could be sitting at the top spot if it wasn’t for their bye week, but either way, this is still a huge accomplishment for Los Angeles after only scoring 224 points all of last year.

Los Angeles still has a long way to go when it comes to continuing to prove they deserve consideration for being a serious contender in the NFC, but at least McVay has already accomplished more this early on than anyone could have expected. Seeing the Rams only need 13 more points to pass last year’s total is truly amazing, especially when remembering they have only played seven games so far with nine more to go.
