One thing worth noting is the improvement the Lions defense has seen since October. They have kept opposing offenses at near 22 points a game, which given the Los Angeles Rams 54 point output against the Chiefs, might be a tough one for Detroit.

It’s more than likely the Los Angeles offense gets back to a trend they’ve set at being in that 30-35 points per game. While the entire NFL world knows they can light it up for 50 plus, it’s hard to see them needing to keep pace with a Lions offense sputtering around 21.6 points a game. Also, tempo will be a factor as Stafford hasn’t been quarterbacking a team with quick strike weapons.

This isn’t to suggest McVay and his offense will play down to a 4-7 Lions team. It is to say that the offensive frenzy seen in games against the Saints and Chiefs isn’t likely against Detroit. It also may mean that if Los Angeles is in firm control of the game, offensive starters may sit to keep players healthy as the season hits the final stretch.

Either way, the 54 points scored in the Monday night shootout against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs won’t at all resemble what we see Week 13 in Detroit. That game was a blip, Sunday gets back to the trend.
