Los Angeles Rams versus the Philadelphia Eagles is a game that has much in common between the two opponents. Aside from the top two draft picks with quarterback Jared Goff being selected first and then Carson Wentz being drafted second in 2016, you have former quarterback Nick Foles who used to be the starter for the Rams when they were in St. Louis.

With the news that Wentz is out on Sunday and maybe longer, Foles assumes a role he is familiar and has had success with.

A lot of success.

For those with a short memory, it’s worth reminding you all that Foles guided an underdog Eagles team through the NFC playoffs, into the Super Bowl against the vaunted New England Patriots, beat them, and won the game MVP award.

Like I said, he’s had a lot of success in his recurrent role.

This is a long way to go in saying that for those who think Philadelphia sans Wentz is a walk-over, think again.

Foles doesn’t need to be great against the Rams, just good enough against a still suspect and underwhelming Rams defense. Even with a loss where Goff and the offense looked really bad, the Rams defense is still the leaky Rams defense.

Foles is a veteran and won’t be fazed by the sudden start. He’s in a role he’s comfortable with, and being a soon to be free agent, has an opportunity to show himself again as being a quarterback who can win games.

Bottom line, don’t underestimate him and his ability to win on the road against a good team like the Rams.
