The Los Angeles Rams got perhaps the most timely of Christmas gifts in the form of veteran running back C.J. Anderson. Anderson more than anything was just what the slumping offense needed, especially quarterback Jared Goff.

The Rams are also the beneficiary of two relatively soft games to wrap their 2018 schedule. With both NFC West bottom feeders serving as their last two opponents, McVay has an opportunity to rest running back Todd Gurley for a second straight week.

For Gurley and for Los Angeles, this is as close to a Divine Intervention as a professional football team may ever experience.

Expect the Rams to take advantage of it.

Anderson showed against the Cardinals that he was able to steady a wobbly running game and buy Gurley some valuable rest and Goff some needed time and confidence. The veteran running back helped to reignite and restart a nearly stalled offensive attack.

He also took the pressure off of Goff.

It’s all just enough to keep Gurley on the sideline one more Sunday before the Rams head to the second season.

While Anderson may not be long for Los Angeles, his sole role may have been the one to help the Rams most important player get healthy.
