While Week 17 against the 49ers won’t elicit any upset predictions from me or anyone else, I do think it may be more competitive and closer than some may think.

Maybe.

If December is any indication of where the 49ers game is late in 2018, a chance to finish with a solid last five games will be a big incentive.

A bigger incentive is the chance to knock their NFC West rival potentially out of the second seed in the conference.

With two good wins against the Broncos and the Seahawks, and a close loss to Chicago, the Rams shouldn’t and won’t take San Francisco for granted.

The Niners are a beat up team at the end of this season, and while injuries have slowed Los Angeles down, they looked to be ramping up to their former self against the Arizona Cardinals.

Since a Week 13 blowout loss to Seattle, San Francisco’s defense has held their opponents offense in check, giving up only 14 points to Denver, 23 points to the Seahawks, and 14 points to Chicago.

Outside of Seattle, their Week 17 finale against the Rams will be the best and most explosive offense the Niners have faced certainly in December, and likely going back to their 39-10 loss to Los Angeles in Week 7.
