Los Angeles Rams: 7-Round 2019 mock draft version 1.0
By Dan Parzych
Round 5: Florida S Chauncey Gardner-Johnson
One of the best decisions made by the Rams last season was to use the franchise tag on LaMarcus Joyner to avoid having to use the draft to look for another safety, which may end up being the case in 2019.

Despite all of the excitement last year about Joyner taking another step in the right direction after earning all of that big money for one season, the argument can be made that 2018 could have been better for the safety.
With this in mind, the Rams may not want to spend the kind of money other teams could offer Joyner in free agency, and if this ends up being the case, one name worth keeping an eye on in the draft is Chauncey Gardner-Johnson out of Florida.
Gardner-Johnson received plenty of praise this past season with the Gators for the way he improved his tackling skills, and while other areas like technique or awareness could see improvement, this is another player that could be a fun project for Phillips to work with.
Spending his college days playing in a tough conference like the SEC means Gardner-Johnson has seen plenty of competitive teams over the years, and the safety could be one of those players who eventually sees his stock on the rise over the next few months by impressing scouts.
