Back in the postseason, reports indicated the Los Angeles Rams were looking into rewarding Sean McVay with an extension he clearly deserved.

Doesn’t it seem like only yesterday the Los Angeles Rams were coming off an embarrassing four-win season, and adjusting to the recent hiring of the youngest head coach in NFL history with Sean McVay?

Flash forward to two years later, and McVay has exceeded all expectations since taking over the job with the Rams, as the NFC champions will enter the 2019 season looking to earn a trip to the playoffs for a third year in a row.

Originally, the plan for Los Angeles seemed to consist of needing at least a year or two of rebuilding since McVay was inexperienced on top of the fact that he seemed to inherit a mess left behind by Jeff Fisher.

As Rams fans know, this was far from the case since it only took McVay two years to help the team reach the Super Bowl, and while it was frustrating to watch Los Angeles lose the way they did a few weeks ago to the New England Patriots, this team still has plenty to be proud of.

If anything, the Rams should be thrilled over the fact this team is finally a legitimate contender in the NFL that is strongly built for years to come, as McVay seems to only be scratching the surface of his true potential as a head coach.

When compared to Bill Belichick, it seemed pretty clear in Super Bowl 53 that McVay still had a lot to learn when it comes to playing on the world’s biggest stage since Los Angeles was so caught off by New England, they failed to even score a single touchdown.

Knowing McVay, the head coach will use what took place in the Super Bowl as a learning experience to make sure this doesn’t happen again for the Rams. And while it may seem premature to discuss a potential extension for McVay at this point since the main focus should be on making sure Los Angeles continues to be a top contender in 2019, they may want to explore the possibility.

It was already reported back in January how the Rams were reportedly going to look into a potential extension for McVay this offseason after wrapping up the second year of the five-year deal he agreed to back in 2017.

Right now, Los Angeles has all of the leverage in the world since it’s only been two seasons, but also the organization hopefully realizes the importance of making sure McVay remains happy enough to make sure he’s around for the long run.

All may seem well for McVay at the moment, and the chances of him leaving the Rams anytime soon just sounds ridiculous to even think about, but also crazier things have happened when it comes to the NFL.

McVay has already indicated on numerous occasions how much he would love to see things work out for the best in Los Angeles for the long run, but this doesn’t make Los Angeles off the hook since the organization needs to do whatever it takes to make their beloved head coach happy.

So after taking all of the positive factors from the previous two seasons into consideration, here’s to hoping the reports from January involving McVay earning an extension end up coming through this offseason, because there’s no question he clearly deserves it.
