Scenario IV -Trade DB Darious Williams to the New York Giants for a second-round pick

The Giants lost DeAndre Baker to allegations of criminal activity and has been placed on the NFL  Commissioner’s exempt list. CB Sam Beal has opted out for this season.  That means that the Giants are in need of help in their defensive secondary. Not just depth, but a true competitor who can start for them this season.

The Giants will not be in the 2020 NFL Playoffs. They have too many young players and are installing a brand new everything in a year where there is not enough time to change even the light bulb.  But the team must remain competitive in order to develop, progress, and learn each week how to get better.  Right now, Darious Williams is a solid NFL starting cornerback.  The New York Giants need Williams

One-year rental

The LA Rams do this deal because Darious Williams is in the last year of his contract. He is a true talent who will do far better than expected by many, which will propel him far out of reach of the LA Rams price range.  Since the team has young defensive backs on the roster who also need playing time, a conditional second-round pick for Williams is a bargain for the Giants.

Why would the Giants make this trade? The 2021 NFL Draft looks like melting ice cream right now. With NCAA football conferences canceling fall football, no guarantees for NFL teams to have direct access to prospects, the draft looks like a blindfold and dartboard exercise. The Giants have a chance to get a starting NFL cornerback on a one-year trial basis. If it doesn’t work, they can shop for a defensive back in free agency. But mark my words, they will love Williams’s work ethic.
