RB Crowell

RB Isaiah Crowell is a 5-foot-11 225-pound runner. He is a five-year veteran who is trying to make a comeback from a 2019 Achilles Tendon tear. Prior to the injury, he was a fairly productive running back who had the misfortune of playing for bad teams.  Why is that misfortune? Teams that often fall behind in the scoreboard quickly convert to pass-heavy play calling.

In just five seasons, Crowell started 55 games and chalked up 880 carries for 3,803 yards and 27 touchdowns. As a receiver, he had caught 117 passes for 922 yards and another touchdown. He played four seasons for the Cleveland Browns and one season for the New York Jets.  He is a workhorse type of running back, a bit of the same cord of wood that Malcolm Brown is carved from.

Crowell runs with purpose

Crowell was not brought in to compete by many teams, likely due to the medical flag. But he is a true worker with the ball in his hands. And the Achilles tear takes time to heal. Not only physically, but the mental aspect of a player learning to trust his body to start, stop, and cut on a dime. It may take patience, but Crowell is worth the investment. He is that guy who has been on unsuccessful teams and kept the faith.

The Rams are a fairly young team and the fast start to the 2020 NFL season may fill the heads of younger players that the journey will always be a stream of wins. The NFL is filled with failures. Successful teams learn from those moments and come out with more determination and resolve. A player like Isaiah Cowell brings more than production on the football. He brings perspective. And as the Rams season progresses, and success begins to accumulate, that perspective will be priceless.
