LA Rams’ game-day primer: the San Francisco 49ers (4-6) visit SoFi Stadium in a rematch of NFC West rivals

The LA Rams have won seven games this season, including a two-game winning streak against two potential NFC Playoff teams in the Seattle Seahawks and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This mini-winning streak has come at a great time, as the Rams schedule has become more difficult as the team has emerged from their bye. The San Francisco 49ers, winners of the last game in San Francisco, have not been as fortunate. The 49ers have been 1-3 since facing the Rams in October.

The weekend weather is currently forecast to be fair and sunny. Temperatures on game day will rise from a morning low in the upper 40’s to a game-time temperature of 72 degrees. Winds will be light and variable, coming out of the west-northwest from 5 to 10 mph.

Second verse, different outcome?

The LA Rams did not put up many points in the first matchup, and the 49ers jumped out to a substantial 21-0 lead by halftime.  In the second half, the Rams mounted a comeback of sorts, putting up 16 points to just three by the 49ers. But the damage was done, and the 49er enjoyed one of the four wins of the season.

That likely will not be the same script in this one. The 49ers have 16 players on injured reserve, including last game’s offense stars QB Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end George Kittle, and many more. That means that the 49ers will be working with reserves at many key positions for this rematch.

How well will the 49ers’ offense play in this one?

The 49ers have a lot of moving parts on the offense right now. Reports are that the team plans to activate running backs Jeff Wilson and Raheem Mostert, as well as cornerback Richard Sherman, by game time to face the LA Rams.

While they may be coming back for the game, how effective will they be with little to no practice before game time? And then there are the six players currently on the COVID-19/IR roster.

Let’s hope the 49ers do the right thing here and not rush someone back to play in this one while still a health risk.  With so many key players out, and the Rams defense playing well, it’s tough to believe the 49ers can jump out to an early lead in this one.

Prediction?
We believe that the Rams and 49ers will split this season. In our original prediction, we expected that the Rams would win first, and the 49ers would come back to win this one. Since the 49ers won the first game, the Rams should take this one.  Since the Rams will be working hard to put up points, let’s go with a score of  Rams 31 49ers 10

In the meantime, the Rams are in first place in the very competitive NFC West and need a win to remain in first-place.  While the 49ers will no doubt want to compete in this one, the Rams should have enough to claim a long-sought victory.
