Rams replacement?

The LA Rams are already developing and grooming Brad Holmes’ replacement from within. The same organizational culture that catapulted Holmes to the position of assuming a General Manager role with the Detroit Lions has already been hard at work developing the person who will ultimately step in to the Director of College Scouting role in his wake.

So how will this impact the LA Rams? Well, the Rams will obviously need to promote a new director, and in a domino-effect will eventually add a new person to their front office staff. That is the beauty of the LA Rams personnel department. It’s a perpetual self-sustaining incubation chamber. By soliciting input from all levels, the Rams openly develop the necessary talent to fill roles of increased responsibility.

Compensatory picks

Yes, the Rams are losing one of the finest personnel department executives in the league. But the NFL recently added compensation incentives to NFL teams that lose a minority coach or executive to a head coach or general manager position with another team. The compensation incentive will take the form of receiving a third-round compensatory pick for two consecutive years.

So it appears that the Rams are eligible for compensatory picks, a third-round compensatory pick for each of the next two years. Right now, that means that the Rams will possess the following draft picks for the 2021 NFL Draft:
one (1) round two, three (3) round three, one (1) round four, one (1) round six, one (1) round seven. That will also change the Rams draft picks for the 2022 NFL Draft as follows:
one (1)  round one, one (1) round two, two (2) round three, one (1) round five, one (1) round six, two (2) round seven.

In summary, the Rams will now likely have seven picks for the 2021 NFL Draft, and eight picks for the 2022 NFL Draft.  Or will that all be just currency to fuel future trades?
