AFC coaches

Now for the other half of the NFL head coaches. There is a wider range among AFC teams in terms of NFL head coaching salaries. Of course, part of the explanation is the fact that New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is the granddaddy of all head coaches, and has set the bar.  But on the other end of the spectrum, some AFC teams have been less than generous with their compensation packages for head coaches.

AFC North

Pittsburgh Steelers  12-4                 Mike Tomlin, $8 million
Baltimore Ravens     11-5                 John Harbaugh, $9 million
Cleveland Browns     11-5                 Kevin Stefanski, $3.5 million
Cincinnati Bengals       4-11-1          Zac Taylor, $4.5 million

Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers, $8 million: As the NFL’s longest-tenured coach, Tomlin has never posted a losing record. Never. Super Bowl winner in his second season.

John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens, $9 million: Signed through 2022 on a four-year contract extension.

Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland Browns, $3.5 million: Seems to have turned around one of the NFL’s sorriest teams in his first year as their coach.

Zac Taylor, Cinncinatti Bengals, $4.5 million: A branch off of the McVay coaching tree.

AFC East

Buffalo Bills                    13-3        Sean McDermot, $7 million
Miami Dolphins              10-6       Brian Flores,   $3 million
New England Patriots    7-9        Bill Belichick, $12 million
New York Jets                   2-14      Robert Saleh,  $5 million

Sean McDermott, Buffalo Bills, signed a contract extension that is estimated to have raised him to $7 million a year

Brian Flores, Miami Dolphins, $3 million: Had a rocky start in his first year, but his team narrowly missed the playoffs last season.

Bill Belichick, New England Patriots, $12 million: When you bring home the Lombardis, you bring home the Benjamins. He’s the NFL’s highest-paid coach for a reason.

Robert Saleh, New York Jets, $5 million: Five years at $25 million. New head coach.
