LA Rams preseason primer: Rams sit 35, Chargers sit 4?
By Bret Stuter
Let’s hope for no (more) injuries
Even though this is a preseason game, the blight of the NFL known as player injuries does not exclude preseason contests from the sites where it can strike. The Rams have already been hit rather ferociously with injuries, even at this early juncture. Not only did Cam Akers lose his season to an Achilles Tendon tear, but the Rams rookies of Tutu Atwell, Jacob Harris, Robert Rochell, and Bobby Brown III have all lost valuable training camp time due to either injury or positive testing for COVID-19.
Veteran players are not immune to injuries, the Rams have dealt with injuries to veterans as well. QB Matthew Stafford, DB Darious Williams, RB Darrell Henderson, and outside linebacker Terrell Lewis have all been dealing with nagging injuries. Stafford’s thumb bruise has been the least impactful in terms of training time lost.
Player Injury Status Game Status
While this is merely a preseason game, the LA Chargers want to build some positive momentum for the new head coach and new direction of the football team. The list of LA Chargers players who won’t play today is significantly smaller than the LA Rams list of players.
While not trying to predict doom and gloom for the Rams, it’s pretty clear that Brandon Staley wants to beat his old boss. The Chargers are trying to excite their fanbase. To do that, they will take any victory that they can get. This could be one of those games where the win means far more to the Chargers organization than to the Rams.
How do I enjoy this preseason game if I’m not attending the game?
Hey, it may be the first preseason game of the year, but that doesn’t mean you need to sulk at home if you don’t have tickets to the game. Why not just be satisfied with some piping hot fresh-baked pizza delivery and watching the game from the comfort of your living room sofa? And no to reheating last week’s barbecue leftovers. Chill some beer and wine. Brown some taco meat and set up a taco bar to keep you nourished throughout the game.

In the meantime, the Rams are playing in just their first preseason game. That means that mistakes will happen, miscommunication is unavoidable, and the Rams may not appear to be a polished team. it’s okay. Just keep telling yourself that this game is not about the final score. It’s about finding players for the roster. Doing that is the ultimate goal in this one
