There is little doubt that former Los Angeles Rams elite defensive lineman Aaron Donald loves retirement. He remains relevant, despite playing his last football snap in the NFL playoffs two years ago. But it's easy to be mesmerized by the guy, a perennial All-Pro player whose dedication to fitness and preparation was the gold standard for NFL athletes.

Donald was a defensive coordinator's dream and an offensive coordinator's nightmare. He recorded 111.0 quarterback sacks over 10 NFL seasons, a phenomenal average of over 11 sacks per season. More astounding, he accomplished that while being double- and triple-teamed by offensive linemen. But he was a sack-master. Even in retirement, he is still recording sacks. Just ask Pat McAfee:

So what triggered the sack? It was the pregame show for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish versus the Pittsburgh Panthers. Pat McAfee is a Notre Dame alumnus, while Aaron Donald hails from Pittsburgh. And the pregame boasting had McAfee standing on his chair, taunting Donald.

As expected, Donald tossed him off his chair, ending the matter.

Aaron Donald remains NFL relevant two years after retiring

Some players retire from the NFL and embrace the opportunity to distance themselves from NFL playing fitness. But the legendary Donald remains very much in NFL playing shape two years after retiring.

Donald has flirted with the idea of unretiring. He hinted most recently at putting on his cleats when outside linebacker Micah Parsons sought a trade, and Donald wanted to be part of Los Angeles' welcoming committee to the former Dallas Cowboys star.

Donald was a force of nature. Former quarterback Luis Perez snitched on Donald, suggesting that Coach McVay had to pull Donald from practice just to allow the offense to get a play off during practice. Now, that's dominance.

Donald stays involved in his former team's success as well. He showed up on social media to troll San Francisco 49ers fans after a humbling loss to LA in their own stadium. But before you suspect that he shouldn't poke the bear, he was the target of relentless trolling from the Niners' fans throughout his career.

Will he unretire? Don't look for that to happen. He continues to appear in football, and his stance remains adamant about enjoying his retirement.

But as Pat McAfee can attest, he still boasts the ability to generate sacks at will. Perhaps if the Rams earn the top seed in the NFC playoffs? But even in that scenario, I wouldn't hold my breath.

As always, thanks for reading.
