Eagles shamelessly poke Rams with ruthless reminder before kickoff

Perhaps the Eagles shouldn't be poking the Rams before the game.

The Los Angeles Rams have a difficult task ahead of them on Sunday. They are heading east to play the undefeated, reigning Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. And they are trying to overcome the momentum of a you-won't-believe-it Philly winning streak. That streak includes defeating the Rams twice last season.

Well, the official Philadelphia Eagles social media account isn’t sitting on the sidelines and quietly observing the outcome of this Week 3 showdown. It’s taking a more active role. Just hours before kickoff, the team shared a video montage of beating Los Angeles twice last season, and that’s something that doesn’t always play out well.

It was not intended to rile up the players on either team. The video was released for the benefit of fans attending the game at Lincoln Financial Field, a trolling message meant to put minds at ease and boost confidence in a victory. This is only Week 3, but the ramifications of falling to an NFC rival this early in the season carry tremendous weight when NFL Playoff seeding comes down to tiebreakers. Head-to-head competition is one of the first used.

Rams HC Sean McVay is facing his own set of demons

While Los Angeles enters Week 3 with an impressive 2-0 record, head coach Sean McVay is just 1-5 against Philadelphia in his career. The opposing defensive coordinator? Vic Fangio, a longtime McVay nemesis dating back to his days with the Chicago Bears.

This game has subplots under subplots. It’s the kind of matchup NFL television producers and Las Vegas oddsmakers salivate over, filled with emotional threads pulling in every direction. There’s LA’s relentless pass rush — the same one that sacked quarterback Jalen Hurts seven times the last time these two teams met.

There are the nightmares of Saquon Barkley churning out huge gains. There’s the emerging receiver duo of Puka Nacua and Davante Adams, who will look to offset Barkley’s production on the ground. And then there’s the play everyone hates: the dreaded Tush Push, where the offensive line gets a head start before the snap and lines up nearly offside.

Only one team will come out on top. Either is capable. This is NFL football at its most compelling. Grab the popcorn and enjoy. As always, thanks for reading.
