The Los Angeles Rams plummeted after winning Super Bowl LVI due to an onslaught of injuries. The team faces Injuries every season. But in 2022, the Rams roster was ripped to shreds by injuries that forced the team to hire offensive linemen off the streets, give them a crash course for a couple of weeks to learn the playbook, and then suit them up and start them on the offensive line.
That is not a great way to win games in the NFL.
The team faced a milder version of an injury epidemic in 2024 when injuries depleted the offensive line and secondary starters. The Rams ultimately flipped to a rookie center to 'make do,' and rotated in several young defensive backs. One year later, the experience gained by so many young players transformed from liabilities to assets. The Rams' offensive line depth chart returns nine players who had started for the team at some point.
And that is pretty amazing stuff for a team that struggled with durability and experience throughout 2024.
But it's just one small sliver of the reforming of the Rams roster and Rams depth chart for 2025. Despite losing two nose tackles, the Rams' defensive line depth chart appears to be stronger than ever. The Rams' wide receiver depth chart may not be overwhelming just yet, but the team certainly has the potential to be a formidable passing offense if everyone stays healthy.
And the team has yet to dabble at the upcoming draft.
Do the Rams have the inside track on the NFC West Division title? Some NFL analysts think so, others do not. But to be honest, sometimes analysts get stuck in a rut of naming familiar teams for high achievements without objective evidence to support the projections. The San Francisco 49ers, winners of just six games in 2024, are projected by some NFL analysts to win the division once again. But do they really have the roster to do so?
For that matter, how have other NFL teams fared so far? The first wave of the 2025 NFL Free Agency market has passed, and with it comes a sense of how competitive (or not) that team will be this season. While we have focused on the Rams roster and free agency tracking, there has been enough water under the bridge to take a quick survey of the other NFL West Division rivals and determine how well or poorly they've done at reforming a competitive team this season.
Let's start with the Seattle Seahawks, a team that finished at 10-7 in 2024.
