It's another LA Rams football game in prime time. The Rams have scratched and clawed their way back to NFL relevance, and with a record of 9-6, stand at the cusp of winning the NFC West Division and claiming a relished spot in the upcoming 2025 NFL Playoffs. To earn the right to represent the NFC West Division, the team must do something that it has not done yet this season.
The team must defeat the Arizona Cardinals (7-8). That may not be an easy task. Despite the Rams dominance of the Cardinals in recent years, it was the Cardinals who had no problem defeating the Rams by a lopsided score of 41-10 in Week 2. The game was played in the desert heat in Arizona in Week 2, the Cardinals were healthy and eager for revenge, the Rams roster was decimated with injuries, and the game was sandwiched between the two NFC teams that had faced off the previous year in the NFC Championship Game: The Detroit Lions (Week 1) and the San Francisco 49ers (Week 3).
It was a familiar tale of a roster filled with young players caught looking past the current opponent to the perceived bigger game on the horizon. The Rams did defeat the 49ers in Week 3, but perhaps a victory that cost them a loss in Week 2.
The team has a golden opportunity to avenge that previous loss. The Rams are in the midst of a four-game winning streak, have a 4-3 home record, and host a team that is just 2-5 on the road this season. For added incentive, the Rams continue to play for the postseason while the Cardinals have already been eliminated.
But rivalry games play by a different set of rules. Toss out records and playoff scenarios. These two teams simply do not like one another. So it' a game that needs to be decided on the football field.
