As the LA Rams (5-5) prepare to host the Philadelphia Eagles (8-2), the same two teams that were linked in the 2016 NFL Draft are linked once more. Only this time, it's not about who the Rams will select as their future franchise quarterback. Now it's about which team will take a step towards solidifying their claim to a playoff berth in the 2025 NFL Playoffs.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, the pressure to make the NFL playoffs is all over but the shouting. With the team sitting at 8-2, riding the crest of a six-game winning streak, and holding a virtual three-game lead over the NFC East Division second-place team, they are merely jockeying for their final seeding. Still, this is a team that held an even loftier perch last season, benefiting from two five game winning streaks to reach a record of 10-1. But losing five of their final six games in an epic collapse stole their momentum, and they lost in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs on the road to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The LA Rams tried a different route to the playoffs. After opening the season with a 3-6 record, the team rattled off seven wins through their final eight games to land in postseason competition. The team also lost in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 NFL Playoffs, as the Rams fell to the Detroit Lines in Detroit, Michigan.

Unlike the Eagles, the Rams are on the outside looking in for any postseason competition right now. The powerhouse NFC North Division has all but locked up two wildcard spots, along with the NFC North Division winner. And the surprisingly effective Washington Commanders are fending off other challengers for the third and final wildcard spot in the NFC. While the Rams are locked into a virtual tie for second place in the NFC West Division, they not only trail the leading Arizona Cardinals (6-4) by a game, but due to an early-season thumping, they have no tiebreaker scenario with the Cardinals.

That means the Rams must win, and hope that the Cardinals lose two more games than the Rams will over the last seven games of the season.

Both teams want to return to the playoffs. Both team want to avenge their postseason loss. But only one team will take a step to doing so.
