Over the past three seasons, Los Angeles Rams running back Kyren Williams has flirted with the top of the rushing stats leaderboard. In 2023, he put up 1,144 rushing yards on just 228 carries. In 2024, he managed 1,299 rushing yards on 316 carries. In 2025, he ran for 1,252 yards on 252 carries. If nothing else, he has been relentlessly productive.
It could all culminate in a breakout 2026 campaign.
Williams is more than a nose-to-the-ground runner in head coach Sean McVay's offense. He is a weapon at the goal line, picking up blitzers in pass protection, and even as a receiver. Since 2023, he has accumulated 44 total touchdowns.
Williams is a key contributor on the football field, but his true value lies in his humility and candor. Unlike many alpha running backs who create locker room chaos by demanding the football, Williams relinquished part of his workload to backup Blake Corum in 2025. The result was creating one of the league's most dynamic backfield duos.
For Wililms individually, despite more than an 18 percent drop in carries, he saw only a 3.6 percent decline in yards.
Kyren Williams is already a rising star in Rams offense
Throwing out his cameo appearance as a rookie, Williams has managed to crack the Rams' top-ten all-time career rushing leaders in only three seasons. At his current pace, he could catapult to one of the top four spots within the next two seasons, behind Stephen Jackson, Eric Dickerson, and Marshall Faulk.
Williams was more efficient than ever last season, indicating that the tandem approach may be working. Rebounding from what was, efficiency-wise, a "down year" in 2024, he averaged 4.8 yards per carry and posted a career-high 62.9% success rate. As a pass-catcher, his 7.8 yards per reception and 52.0% success rate were his best marks since his rookie year.
The NFL is rediscovering the value of the running back in modern offenses, and the Rams have not been immune to that resurgence. In many ways, the new dimension of multiple tight-end formations as a staple of McVay's operation affords Williams the perfect environment for a career year. While Corum will still get his reps, 1,400 rushing yards feels within range.
Williams continues to improve each season. Could he finish even higher among the rushing leaders in 2026? He is certainly in an ideal position to do so. Since becoming a starter Williams has finished no lower than seventh, peaking at third in 2023.
But even if he fails at that, he will certainly remain one of the offense's main contributors, and that's all he and the Rams care about.
As always, thanks for reading.
