Rams fans on fireworks watch as locker room drama gets Cowboys test

Tempers may flair in the Rams scrimmage game against the Cowboys. That's fine as long it doesn't ignite a feud between former teammates.

When the Los Angeles Rams re-signed backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for his second one-year deal, the front office had already added veteran wide receiver Davante Adams. Normally, that would not have moved the needle of concern one iota. Matthew Stafford is the team's starting quarterback. Garoppolo would spend almost all practices in training camp working with the backs.

But fate stepped in and forced an issue that the Rams certainly did not want to face so quickly. Stafford arrived at training camp with a back injury that has prevented him from participating in football-related activities for weeks.

Without a healthy starter, LA did what was expected and promoted backup Jimmy Garoppolo to acting starter. And at that moment, Jimmy G became the quarterback, throwing to former Las Vegas Raiders teammate, WR Davante Adams. It was Adams who forced Garoppolo's benching in 2022, ultimately leading to his release.

Is the silly Davante Adams - Jimmy Garoppolo feud finally over?

If you love subplots and NFL drama, you may be in luck. Despite Davante Adams' positive response in a recent interview regarding his relationship with Jimmy Garoppolo, this is training camp. It's a we versus we scenario, and only the most foolish players fail to grasp the need to play nice when competing wth teammates against teammates.

When the Rams scrimmage the Dallas Cowboys, the QB-WR duo will face their first true competition together since parting ways with the Raiders years ago. Is their relationship truly repaired to withstand the heat of battle? Or will the first signs of trouble reignite fireworks once more? If hostilities surface, how will this team referee the two combatants?

This could all be nothing. But for their first facsimile of NFL competition, it's certainly something worth keeping on your radar. The Rams are a strong organization that does not tolerate antics, whether between a player and the team or between players. And I'm certain that both Adams and Garoppolo are fully aware of the team's lack of tolerance for those types of distractions.

Competitors compete. If the Rams offense sputters, can the two players stay cordial? This is a different team, with a different culture. But history is tough to ignore, particularly when emotions get the best of professional athletes.

Grab the popcorn and enjoy the show. Rams fans know that whenever Dallas competes against the Horns, fisticuffs ensue. This time, fans hope it's LA players fighting Cowboys players, and not other Rams players.

As always, thanks for reading.
