Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford did not participate on Day 1 of training camp. It's all part of the strategy to preserve him for the upcoming season. And that plan involves shutting him down at regular intervals throughout camp. So far, so good.

Stafford clearly does not need the same level of repetitions as mere mortals. Despite sitting out a day, he stepped into the pocket on Day 2 and looked every bit like the defending MVP.

Fans' questions deserve answers. And answers abounded when Stafford took the practice field. He was not limited in his throws, his reps, or his reads. In fact, he checked every box as he commanded the offense and connected with receivers as though it were midseason.

If you harbored any concerns that this might be Stafford's last hurrah in LA, he wasted no time squelching them.

Stafford shows no lingering effects from 2025 back injury

The Rams were very careful with him last season. And they are showing meticulous care so far this season as well. Monday's results were proof positive that LA is on the right track. Not only did Stafford show no pain or limited range of motion, but he was crisp and clean in all aspects of his performance.

He worked exclusively with the starters, and that is great news to fans who saw him struggle to connect with new receivers a year ago. With Stafford mixing into the pocket in 2026 camp, pass-catchers should have no trouble anticipating his throws. That, in turn, should improve pedestrian catch rates for multiple receivers.

But there is more to it than catch rates. Having Stafford back in MVP form spreads positive vibes throughout the entire organization. Imagine the thrill of newcomers like Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson, and Myles Garrett witnessing their new quarterback put on a clinic on his first day throwing in training camp. That should be plenty motivating.

Iron sharpens iron. Stafford is giving the new and improved Rams secondary all they can handle. That's a good thing, as it ensures they will be in top form when the season arrives. Thankfully, Stafford himself appears more than ready.

As always, thanks for reading.
