The Los Angeles Rams are not willing to let their chance at a Super Bowl win in 2026 slide by the wayside, as they mortgaged a big chunk of their future to acquire Cleveland Browns superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett. The trade package sent to the Browns will be headlined by ascending young pass rusher Jared Verse.

In addition to Verse, the Rams will send Cleveland a first-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft, a second-round pick in 2028, and a 2029 third-rounder in exchange for one of the greatest defensive players this game has ever seen and someone who can immediately provide an impactful presence in the new-look Los Angeles defense.

The Rams have made a habit of going for it all and throwing caution to the wind in pursuit of a championship, and with two Super Bowl appearances and one victory in the Les Snead-Sean McVay era, that mindset has worked well for them. What the Horns have done here is something fans have seldom seen across NFL history.

Finalized Myles Garrett trade details show Rams are going all-in

Garrett, who has recorded at least 10 sacks in each of the last eight seasons, made seven Pro Bowls and was named a First Team All-Pro five times with the Browns. A season removed from signing a four-year, $160 million contract extension, he is coming off a campaign in which he set the NFL's single-season record with 23 sacks.

Losing Verse hurts. After making a Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons and putting up some of the best pressure numbers in the NFC, Verse was thought to be the cornerstone of the Rams' front seven for years to come. He will try to prove he can be a cheaper alternative as the top dog in Cleveland's pass rush.

However, you need to crack some eggs to make an omlette, and Garrett is the type of player that warrants such extreme compensation. None of the first-round picks the Rams have utilized since 2016 remain on the roster, and Verse was the only player in between Jared Goff and Ty Simpson the Rams actually picked in the first round.

The Rams pushed their chips to the center five years ago, and it worked out perfectly - Matthew Stafford immediately led the team to a Super Bowl victory. Perhaps one more impactful move can bring about a similar result. Certainly Snead & Co. have attempted to replicate it by swinging first for Trent McDuffie, the former All-Pro Chiefs cornerback, and now Garrett. What a time to be a Rams fan.
