When it comes to critical games, you can expect players on the Los Angeles Rams roster to do everything in their power to contribute and help the team succeed. But after the recent injury to veteran wide receiver Davante Adams, one that could impact his ability to face the 7-2 Seattle Seahawks, fans were rightfully concerned.
That concern crystallized when the first injury report for Week 11 surfaced, and Adams did not practice. For a game that holds the immediate NFC West Division title and more to the victor, the absence of LA's star scorer is not something to sneeze at.
After all, this offense can manufacture yards, but scoring touchdowns in bunches is a Davante Adams specialty.
Thankfully, head coach Sean McVay was quick to address fans' concerns as they formed. He asserted that despite Adams' lack of practice, the coach was confident that Adams would play in Week 11. That carries a lot of weight as two divisional powerhouses square off for NFC West bragging rights.
Davante Adams must be on the football field in Week 11
Los Angeles' offense has been peaking of late. But digging just a bit deeper, the evidence points to veteran Davante Adams as the catalyst. He has scored six of 16 touchdowns in the past three games and three of five touchdowns in London, England, which ignited the offensive output.
In a season in which Los Angeles has been forced to adapt to elite wide receiver Puka Nacua's absence at times, Adams has been the reliable, steady Freddie who shows up each week. Best of all, his connection to quarterback Matthew Stafford is finally taking root.
While he struggled to catch better than 50 percent of the footballs thrown his way before the BYE, he has hauled in 11 of 15 passes for 137 yards and three touchdowns after the BYE. He is the hot receiver in this offense right now.
And there is the rub. The hottest receiver in this offense needs to take the football field this week. The Seahawks are not just successful; they boast a formidable defense and a feisty offense. Throw out the gimmicks and the fashion statements. Winning in Week 11 will require nearly flawless football from all three phases.
And everyone will need to contribute.
Fans hope Coach McVay is correct. This team needs a wide receiver who averages a touchdown per game this season. As always, thanks for reading.
