When it comes to the Los Angeles Rams offense, sometimes the old tricks are the best tricks. And for head coach Sean McVay, reaching into his bag of tricks can often surprise defenses. After all, when he was the offensive coordinator for Washington, he was a tight-end savant. Now, he is dusting off that tight end prowess for 2025, and the results have been spectacular.

The tight end position has always been a hot topic for fans. Head coach Sean McVay hinted that the offense would infuse more variety in 2025. Having said that, it appears that even he is a bit taken aback by how successful 13 personnel has been this season.

After nine games, the offense is rapidly gaining momentum. Much like the inception of McVay's offensive scheming in 2017 and 2018, the new and improved offense has mystified defensive coordinators and defenders. And the proof is in the pudding. The tight end room is far more productive after nine games than all of 2024, and that's saying something.

Rams accidentally stumbled into a winning offensive formula

Early in the season, the team routed almost all of the offense through the hands of wide receivers Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, or on the ground through running back Kyren Williams. But when Nacua was injured, the offense pivoted to 13 personnel and scored a ton of points. Now, three tight ends have become a staple of this offense.

Even now, general manager Les Snead continues to invest in the position that fans have embraced.

NFL insider and analyst Brian Baldinger has noticed the offensive prowess of the new LA offense and enthusiastically endorses the innovation. He cites the team's tight ends by name. So, who are they?

Tight end production through Week 10

  • Tyler Higbee - 19 of 28, 167 yards, 2 touchdowns
  • Terrance Ferguson - 5 of 11, 138 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Colby Parkinson - 13 of 15, 109 yards, 1 touchdown
  • Davis Allen - 13 of 16, 104 yards, 3 touchdowns
  • PRACTICE SQUAD
  • Mark Redman
  • Nick Muse

While the history of the team has not typically featured tight ends, that has all changed this season. Curiously, it appears that the more frequently the team leans into multiple tight end formations, the more adept at deploying those tight ends it becomes.

The Week 10 performance was an offensive masterpiece.

While the question of how long it will last is only natural, the offense could leverage its 13 personnel formation for some time. Only seven teams in the NFL deploy three tight ends at a frequency of eight percent or higher. Of the 32 NFL teams, only The Horns have mastered the formation.

Will it be a factor against the Seahawks? Signs point to yes. Even defenses that have some success against multiple tight-end offenses have never seen one this good. And the Seahawks' ability to defend three tight ends is up for debate.

This will be a hard-fought battle. But as always, thanks for reading.
