LA Rams could move away from Robert Woods

WR Robert Woods is a player that LA might decide to move. Woods’ salary cap hit is $8.175 million in 2020. His dead cap number, if cut, will be $4.35 million. Should the LA Rams keep him or trade/release him?

In 2019, he caught 90 passes for 1,134 yards with two touchdowns. As such, he was the second leading Rams receiver behind WR Cooper Kupp by a small margin. Woods does have some trade value.

He played four seasons in Buffalo before signing with LA in 2017. For his career, Woods averages 12.8 yards per reception. LA could market him to a team needing a number one receiver. In 2021, Woods’ cap hit increases to $9.175 million. His dead cap hit is reduced by $3 million. Would it be smarter to keep him or draft a young wide receiver on a rookie contract?

Don’t forget Kupp will become a free agent after this season. Will the Rams want to three wide receivers with big paychecks in 2021? There is a cornerback wanting a huge payday in 2021, as well.

Seems like the Rams have most of their money invested in offensive players. Five of the top seven play on the offense. Will LA move away from this next player in 2020?
