LA Rams’ game-day finds the 5-1 Bears against the 4-2 Rams in a memorable Monday Night Football game.
The LA Rams are still stuck at winning four games this season, all against teams from the NFC East. The team had two chances to change that, with both occasions being difficult road trips. The first opportunity found the Rams losing a heartbreaker on the road against the Buffalo Bills, 34-31. The second opportunity was a disappointing road loss to the rival San Francisco 49ers, 24-16, where the offense never seemed to get on track. Is the third time the charm?
The Monday evening weather is currently forecast to be mostly sunny by day, with a crescent moon and falling temperatures due to clear skies by evening into nighttime. After a daytime high in the mid to upper 60’s, the temperature will fall quickly to a daytime high of the mid 50’s and light winds will persist from the west-northwest in a range of 5 to 10 mph.
High scoring game?
The LA Rams will need to get their offense unlocked in this one, and head coach Sean McVay has no doubt put in extra hours to cook up a fix. The Chicago Bears have a stout defense and their one loss to the Indianapolis Colts was due to their ineffective offense. The Bears have won five games on the back of that defense that is very effective against the pass.
Which means that the LA Rams offense will play well. With the Bears offense defending conventional passing offense, you can bet the whiz-kids McVay with offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell will have some surprises in store. After all, the Rams have not used as much of their two tight-end offensive sets as expected, and neither Cam Akers nor Van Jefferson has made much of an impact. This should be the occasion to innovate. We expect a high scoring contest as a result.
I expect the Bears will open up their offense as well.
Will this game trigger another QB controversy in Chicago?
The Rams have felt like a contender this year, but they have yet to prove that they are deserving of mention in any NFL Playoff discussions. While they are still in great shape for the postseason, the Rams are tied with the Arizona Cardinals and are two games behind the Seattle Seahawks. A loss this week will drop the Rams to 4-3, and their path to the playoffs becomes much steeper as a result.
But on the flip side, the quarterback situation remains volatile in Chicago. It was the Atlanta Falcons game that triggered a quarterback switch. While Foles led the Bears back for a win, he quarterbacked their only loss the following week to the Colts. If he struggles against the Rams, the Bears will be forced to reevaluate the position. A great defensive effort by the Rams against the Bears will start the doubts once more. While Foles is a good quarterback, he is the type of passer who can play well. But he is also the type of quarterback who is vulnerable to the Rams defense.
