Trenchwork

When it comes to the game of football, you win games within the trenches. That starts with the offensive line and the defensive line. The talent in the 2021 NFL Draft is considered rather boom-or-bust heavy. Since the Rams will not have a first-round draft pick until 2024, day two picks become critical.

General manager Les Snead will need to get these picks right if he wants to one, keep his job, and two, make this team stay great for the next five to ten years. They currently have a $26 million shortfall in cap space to start the 2021 offseason. That means that they aren’t going to be able to sign many players in free agency. The draft is where you find the little pieces of the puzzle to help the Rams win not one Super Bowl but multiple Super Bowls. So who is on the shopping list for that round-two pick (57th overall) in the 2021 NFL Draft?

1. Jevon Holland S (Oregon)

University of Oregon safety Jevon Holland stands 6-foot-1 and weighs 201-pounds. The true junior opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns. In 2018, Holland was all over the field for the Oregon Ducks. Showing his playmaking ability along with his expectational range in centerfield, Holland had an outstanding true freshmen season with five interceptions. In his sophomore season, the safety had 66 total tackles, displaying his high-level athleticism and versatility. However, he also had 4.5 tackles for loss, four interceptions, four pass deflections as well as a pick-six.

This shows how much of a freak of nature he was. He was ranked the number one safety before the 2020 season began. Now, he’s ranked third or fourth in most safety rankings, which could drop to the Rams on day two at 57. Holland’s long-range and great hands are what make him find the ball quite often. Pairing him in the Rams secondary would be such an exciting duo to watch in the NFL.
