Much of the information pummeling Los Angeles Rams fans this close to the start of the 2025 NFL Draft concerns what teams may do in Round 1. After all, at least 25 NFL teams have a direct and unavoidable impact on what the Rams can do on Day 1. That number can grow if the Rams find themselves locked in a trade. But there are so many uncertainties about the 2025 NFL Draft that I'm not convinced that there will be much of a lull for Rams fans, despite the team likely picking more than three hours into Round 1 of the draft.
There are many NFL rumors about the Rams plans in this draft. But any projections that involve the Rams making a trade up or back depend on the ability to find a willing trade partner willing to make a fair market value exchange. And as we've witnessed in the past, the Rams may be quite motivated but still struggle to find a trade partner willing to go in the opposite direction in terms of where the Rams wish to end up.
One rookie who is all over the place is rookie QB prospect Shedeur Sanders. Long thought to be one of the early rookies chosen, there is growing concern that he may be one of the unexpected players to tumble down the board on Day 1. Even now, there appears to be dialogue with the New York Giants whether or not to select him with the third overall pick:
There definitely seems to have been some internal back-and-forth within the #Giants building about whether it makes sense to take Shedeur Sanders at No. 3.

Some around the NFL genuinely believe the decision is still up in the air.

But others expect the Giants to select edge rusher Abdul Carter. If that happens, will any teams be in the market for Sanders? Perhaps, perhaps not. He could hear his name called out at any point in Round 1.
Other draft analysts see Sanders in a different light.

Third overall, or not at all. Hmm...
But, what happens in a scenario in which a highly controversial rookie prospect plummets to the Rams pick at the 26th overall pick?
Will they, or won't they? The Rams question in a growing scenario
While I do not particularly subscribe to the growing buzz about NFL teams not enamored with rookie quarterback prospects available in the 2025 NFL Draft, I cannot deny the possibility that teams will be more interested in loading up on elite talent, with the intention of trading back into Round 1 to claim a promising but not overwhelming rookie quarterback.
Perhaps one of the most polarizing rookie prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft is Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. On some boards, he is viewed as a Top 10 selection. On other boards, he is now projected to fall out of Round 1. Which is the more likely scenario?
While you may not have considered Sanders as a potential target for the Rams in Round 1, does that change if he is on the board at the 26th overall pick? Some draft analysts are making compelling arguments for him to be on the board that late in Round 1. NFL Insider Adam Schefter mentioned Sanders to the Rams. Even NFL reporter Kay Adams shared odds that place the Rams as the fifth-most likely landing spot for Shedeur Sanders.
The thing is, are the Rams sold on Shedeur Sanders in the first place?
That is just one of many questions that blur Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft. After the Tennessee Titans choose Miami QB Cam Ward, the remaining quarterbacks are not nearly as certain. The New Orleans Saints are one team that may invest in a quarterback in Round 1. The Pittsburgh Steelers are another team believed to target a quarterback in Round 1. But some NFL draft analysts believe that the Steelers prefer Alabama QB Jalen Milroe:
Rumor: The Steelers highest-rated quarterback isβ¦Jalen Milroe. And the Steelers are just figuring out how to get him. Other than taking him 21st overall. Interesting twist on things. pic.twitter.com/Tfdja6zAAp

And some NFL draft analysts question a Round 1 grade on QB Shedeur Sanders in the first place:

Which of the rookie quarterbacks who are available in the 2025 NFL Draft are true targets of the Rams? When we posed that question a month ago, Shedeur Sanders was still projected to be off the board by the time the Rams stepped up to the draft podium. But what happens if he is still there? The Rams have met with three quarterbacks, none of whom is Shedeur Sanders. But this team often selects players who are not reported to have met with the team during the pre-draft process.
Would the team make such an important investment in a quarterback whom they had not met with? Yes. But that presumes that the Rams want to select Sanders. That is more than I can say now. If he falls to the Rams at the 26th overall pick, the phones will be ringing off the hook with offers from teams looking to trade in to add Shedeur Sanders to their rosters. So the Rams will face a tough decision: Trade out for the best offer on the table, or stand pat and select a quarterback who will likely be viewed as the successor to veteran QB Matthew Stafford.
It's a tough decision. But either way, the Rams are likely to emerge in much better shape.
How do you want it to play out? Is it better for the Rams if another NFL team selects Shedeur Sandeers, pushing at least one non-quarterback to the Rams at 26? Or are you hopeful that Sanders falls to the Rams at 26, and that the team invests in a future quarterback in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft?
Stay tuned. We'll know how this all plays out in just over 24 hours. And as always, thanks for reading.
