Rams Still Signing Picks, Releasing Players
The Rams haven’t wasted much time getting their 2010 picks signed, as all but three are now under contract with the team. A few days ago, the Rams officially signed DE Hall Davis and WR Mardy Gilyard, whose deal is worth $2.34 million over four years. Sam Bradford, Rodger Saffold, and Fendi Onobun have yet to sign on the dotted line, but the team expects Onobun’s deal to be completed soon. I’ve talked about Bradford and Saffold already, but I still expect both to be in before training camp. As far as the releases go, the team let go six [...]
Rams Ink Several Draft Picks
It was an awfully busy weekend for the Rams, as the team has signed several draft picks for the upcoming season. The team started the free-for-all by inking LB Josh Hull and DE George Selvie to four-year deals. Then, the team finalized a deal with TE Michael Hoomanawanui, a guy who coaches have been very impressed with thus far. Finally, the team gave third round CB Jerome Murphy a four-year, $2.152 million deal that included a $937,739 signing bonus. Murphy is the highest pick of this year’s draft to sign a deal thus far. As far as the big boys [...]
Ram-Relevant Tidbits
A few former Rams have been in the news over the last few days, so I figured I’d keep everyone update on their situations. First, as many of you have probably already heard, Marc Bulger signed a deal to be a backup with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens gave Bulger a reported $3.8 million to play backup to Joe Flacco, and I must say that it surprised me. It doesn’t surprise me that Bulger is a backup, because let’s be honest, he isn’t an NFL starting quarterback. What shocks me is that he will make $3.8 million next season when [...]
Rams Announce Training Camp Schedule
With training camp seemingly just around the corner, the Rams have announced their schedule of practices that will be open to the public. All in all, the team will have 28 practices and one scrimmage open to the public beginning July 29. Here is the schedule in its entirety, and I urge anyone who is able to try to make it out for at least one of these sessions. I myself will be heading out for at least a few sessions when work allows it, and I can’t wait to finally see this team in action. All practices will be [...]
Rams Lock Up Atogwe
For anyone who hasn’t heard or who doesn’t follow me on Twitter (shameless plug), the Rams inked free agent safety OJ Atogwe to a long-term deal earlier today. I haven’t seen any official numbers on the deal, but rumor has it that OJ will make about $5 million a year for four or five seasons. I have made my stance on Atogwe known numerous times on this blog, so I won’t get into it again. Suffice it to say, I am very pleased with this deal, although I would have preferred the contract to be a little shorter than five [...]
Rookie Profile: Marquis Johnson
Ok, I posted this article last night but for some reason it didn’t show up on the page. Sorry about the two artcicles back-to-back, but I had no idea it wasn’t up. Up next on the rookie profiles is cornerback Marquis Johnson out of Alabama. We are now moving into the area of the Rams draft that I wasn’t all that excited with, and Johnson certainly falls into that category. He is a good fit for the defensive scheme we are running here, but I’m not sure Johnson will be able to make this team out of camp this season. [...]
Bradford Discusses Offseason Prep
Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford was a guest on The Fast Lane radio show in St. Louis this afternoon, and he discussed many different issues with the guys. The main focus of the interview was on Bradford’s preparation for training camp and how he plans to handle himself in the time leading up to the beginning of camp. At the bottom of the post is a link to the audio of the interview, so check it out if you have some time. I will hit some of the highlights for you here and discuss some of the things he said [...]
Rams Giving Unga A Look
Brian Stull is reporting that the Rams are interested in former BYU running back Harvey Unga for the upcoming supplemental draft. For those of you who don’t know the story, Unga “voluntarily withdrew” from BYU after his junior season for “engaging in premarital relations” with his girlfriend. So pretty much what happened is, the school kicked him out for having sex with his girlfriend of three years who he intends to marry. I’m not going to turn this into some kind of Mormon-bashing article or religious argument, because people can believe whatever they want to believe, but kicking a [...]
Popsicle, Anyone?
Before I get into the news from the last few days, I have to talk about the “Fred Robbins Popsicle Break” that took place at camp today. Apparently, the new Ram has been on Coach Spags for several days about giving the team some popsicles, and coach finally gave in today. For his efforts, Robbins was given an entire box for himself for inspiring the break. It sounds like spirits are high with the Rams, and you have to like that. On to the real news. The team released five players yesterday, but none of them were major surprises. CB [...]
Rookie Profile: George Selvie
Up next on the rookie profiles is South Florida defensive end George Selvie. This selection was, in my humble opinion, the pick of the draft for the Rams. For those of you who follow college football, you know the story of Selvie. He was pretty much the cream of the crop of defensive tackles in the 2007 season, but his production significantly dropped off over his last two seasons in South Florida. I will detail his career numbers later, but suffice it to say that this guy was considered a sure-fire top five NFL prospect after his huge year in [...]
