Memorial Day Update
First off, let me start by wishing everyone a happy Memorial Day. Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. Now, moving onto business. The June 1 deadline for safety OJ Atogwe is fast approaching, and according to several sources, no decision has been made by the team as of yet. I’ve written on this before, but for those who don’t know, the team either has to offer him 110% of his 2009 salary or let him become an unrestricted free agent. The word is that the team would prefer to sign him to an extension rather than give him the increase, [...]
LenDale White Cut Loose By Seahawks
Not much going on in the world of the St. Louis Rams today, but I have to say I was shocked to see that the Seattle Seahawks have released RB LenDale White. I thought LenDale would be revitalized after being reunited with Pete Carroll, whom he played for in college at USC, but obviously it wasn’t working out. The move makes more sense now that it is being reported that he is looking at a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, but I really thought Carroll would have a very long leash with his former player. [...]
Kroenke Impressive At Owners Meetings
Stan Kroenke is determined to be the next owner of the St. Louis Rams, and he made his case to the other owners at the Owners Meetings this week. Kroenke was reportedly very impressive when answering questions from the finance committee. He even got a vote of confidence from the head of the committee, Saints owner Tom Benson, who said “Everyone wants him as an owner.” The most interesting piece of news here is that Kroenke addressed the cross-ownership issue with the league. He is apparently not going to try to sell the team to his wife, as the league [...]
Rams Release Five
The Rams were back on the field for OTAs today, but the biggest news was the team’s release of five players. DT Chris Bradwell, WRs Roderick Owens and Nick Moore, FB Kennedy Tinsley and LB Simoni Lawrence were all cut loose from the team today. Nothing to worry about here Rams fans, as none of these guys were going to make an impact on the squad this season. Chris Bradwell has some potential, but he isn’t ready to play just yet. I like Simoni Lawrence, but he was a longshot to make the roster. In other OTA news, WR Keenan Burton [...]
Rams and Atogwe Still Talking
Rams beat writer Brian Stull reported on Twitter that the Rams are still in talks with safety OJ Atogwe on a contract. Stully believes that this thing is going to go on at least until the June 1 deadline, and possibly past that. I don’t know about you, but this whole situation is really starting to worry me. You have to think that if OJ hits the market he will be snatched up quickly, and it seems unlikely that he will give us any kind of hometown deal considering we aren’t very good. I know the team is at least [...]
Spags Bringing In Madison To Help Corners
The Rams are in the midst of a major youth movement right now, and there is little doubt that several positions could benefit from some veteran tutelage this summer. It looks like the cornerbacks will be getting just that during OTAs, as Coach Steve Spagnuolo has invited veteran Sam Madison to come and work with the young DBs over the next few weeks. Madison was a dominant NFL corner for 11 seasons, and he was one of the best press coverage guys to put on the helmet over his career. He played for Spags with the Giants, and needless to [...]
Rookie Gilyard Robbed At Gunpoint
In a bit of disturbing news, new Rams receiver Mardy Gilyard was robbed at gunpoint earlier this week in Cincinnati. Gilyard was on his way home from a fishing trip with his brother and his “bodyguard”, who was also robbed. Apparently, two men approached Gilyard after he walked out of a gas station and took his gold chain and some money. The perpetrators also apparently wanted to steal his car, but Gilyard told them he didn’t have the keys so they ran away. The good news is that Gilyard is ok and so is everyone else who was with him. [...]
OTA News and Notes
The first day of OTAs is officially in the books, and there were plenty of noteworthy things that came out of today’s workout, the biggest having to do with the quarterback position. AJ Feeley took all of the first team snaps today, and while I can’t say I’m shocked, I thought maybe Sam Bradford would get a chance to work with the first team receivers. I know it’s early and Sam is still getting his feet wet, but I would have liked to see him make at least a few throws with the starters. It is obvious at this point [...]
OTAs Starting Tuesday
I want to start off by apologizing for my lack of posts as of late, as the combination of my new job to a small extent and Internet issues to a much bigger extent caused me to take several days off. Lucky for me, not much has happened while I was away. The big news on this Monday is that the Rams start OTAs tomorrow, and we already have some news to look out for. First, the good news. Here is a list of players who have been cleared from injury and are ready to participate this week: DT Gary Gibson, [...]
